Sunnyvale Hotels

Find your inspiration in Sunnydale, a city where creativity and innovation hangs thick in the air. You’ll be staying at the cutting edge of technological development, with new and exciting Silicon Valley start-ups blossoming all around, and NASA, Yahoo, and Google for neighbors. It’s not all about work here, however, and holidaymakers can take full advantage of the warm Californian climate to get outdoors and get active exploring. Of course, great wine also goes hand-in-hand with creativity, which is fortunate, because some of California’s best vineyards are just a short car journey away.

Things to see

There’s nowhere better to soak up some sun, and recharge your creative batteries, than Baylands Park. Bordering the East Bay, the park lets you join the 300 mile-long Bay Trail, where you can walk past scenic golf courses, and flocks of birds swooping low over the water. Sunnyvale’s own creative juices are celebrated at the annual Arts and Wine festival. The festivities take over downtown each June, and see Murphy Avenue vibrating to live music, as canvasses are splashed, and quality wines are uncorked with abandon. Don’t worry if you miss out, though, as you can still enjoy the Farmers' Market, which springs up along Murphy Avenue every Saturday morning. Pick up a few bottles of vintage red for an evening in, along with organic meat and fruit and veg so fresh the soil’s still clinging to it.

Where to stay

If you’re wanting to enjoy Sunnyvale’s nightlife, then staying among the sprinkling fountains of downtown will suit you perfectly. Head out to taste the juicy flavors of locally fished seafood jambalaya, washed down with a bottle of craft beer from your restaurant’s microbrewery. Or, hit the trendy wine bars before grabbing a spare guitar and jamming away at one of the city’s live music bars. Sunnyvale is bordered by both San Jose and Mountain View, or a stay in Cupertino will be ideal if the option to leave the city behind and head out to places like Rancho San Antonio County Park appeals. Here, you can see deer peeking out nervously from behind tree trunks and - if you’re lucky - bobcats and coyotes.

How to get to Sunnyvale

Silicon Valley has several large airports, which makes it easy to get in and out. If you’re in the US, flying to Mineta San José International Airport is likely to be your best bet. The airport is just 15 minutes’ drive from downtown Sunnyvale. Flying to either of San Francisco’s 2 airports may be more convenient if you’re coming from abroad, however, and you can travel between Sunnyvale and San Francisco using the Caltrain service in less than an hour. You can also arrive in Silicon Valley by jumping on a train to San Francisco or Santa Clara.
