Spread out over 50 landscaped acres, Lee Richardson Zoo makes a top notch family day out. Here you’ll find playful primates, magnificent lions, and a menagerie of other creatures you wouldn’t expect to find in Kansas. For something more native to the state however, take a tour of Sandsage Bison Range Wildlife Area. The sprawling 3,760 acre prairie ecosystem is home to a herd of over 100 bison, and has been operating as a range since 1916. For those wanting to delve into the heritage of Southwest Kansas, Finney County Historical Museum is packed with fascinating curiosities. Along with exhibits focusing on the ‘Spirit of the Plains’ and C.J. “Buffalo” Jones, the museum’s grounds feature a 1-room schoolhouse and the home of William D. and Luticia Fulton, both of which date back to the late 1800s. For some of the best golf in the state, Buffalo Dunes Golf Course offers 18 holes that’ll challenge even the most experienced of players.

How to get to Garden City

Garden City Regional Airport is the city’s main gateway, situated a convenient 8 miles away. Whilst only serving a small number of destinations, connecting flights can be made through Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport in Texas. The second largest airport in the states, you can fly in from just about anywhere in the world, with direct flights as far as Europe and Asia. Once you’ve landed at Garden City Regional Airport it’s just a few minutes in a taxi to downtown. The city is also reachable by rail. The Amtrak’s Southwest Chief Chicago-Los Angeles line makes a stop towards the south of Garden City.
