Santa Barbara Hotels

An attractive Mediterranean-style sprawl of white stucco and red tiles, sunny Santa Barbara resides between the glittering Pacific coast and the dramatic Santa Ynez Mountains. Blessed with an immaculate year-round climate, it’s a city of fine dining, exclusive shopping, the arts, and award-winning wineries. Add to that picture perfect beaches and the sprawling wilderness of nearby Los Padres Forest, and it’s fair to say “The American Riviera” offers the best of California – in one pretty package.

Things to see

A dazzlingly white building surrounded by lush green grounds, Santa Barbara County Courthouse is the grandest example of the city’s Spanish Colonial architecture. Originally completed in 1929, visitors can take elevators to the top of the 85 foot tall clock tower, which offers panoramic views over the city. A historic pier gently bustling with tourists and locals alike, Stearns Wharf is a serene spot to fish, dine, or simply admire the ocean view. The sea breeze carries tantalizing food smells from the resident restaurants, which serve up everything from juicy steaks to freshly caught seafood, whilst a scattering of shops provide plenty of scope for souvenir hunters. For seasoned shopaholics, a saunter through Paseo Nuevo Mall offers a stylish fashion fix. Adorned with Mediterranean-style courtyards and bubbling fountains, the open-air complex is home to over 50 specialty stores, along with fine restaurants and the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara.

Separated by Stearns Wharf, most hotels in these areas are situated on Cabrillo Boulevard – just opposite the good stuff, but still within good reach of downtown’s many lures too.
