Lake Park also has many miles of hiking and biking trails, including the picturesque 5 mile blacktop trail that circles around both sections of the lake, with shady picnic areas and activities such as kayaking to enjoy along the way. The leafy campus of the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota is also close to the lake, with a mixture of modern and traditional buildings set amongst tall trees, with plenty of green spaces to relax. Around the campus you'll also find hiking trails that become skiing trails in the snowy weather, and these areas are open to the public for trail or skating skiing, and there are various trails from half a mile to nearly 4 miles in length.

Winona Amtrak station is on the Empire Builder line, and has regular services to Seattle, Portland, and Chicago.
