What to do in Panama City Beach

Panama City Hotels

At the heart of the Florida Panhandle and looking out to the Gulf of Mexico, Panama City offers picture-perfect beaches with powdery white sands and turquoise seas. During Spring Break it becomes a party town, with the beaches full of lively parties and the bars full of exciting events. However, during the rest of the year it’s a family-friendly vacation spot with plenty to do and see.

Things to see

Much of St. Andrews State Park is along a rugged coastline, with a pier, a boat launching area, and picnic spots with barbecue grills where families can enjoy eating al fresco. Explore the park and you’ll find over 1 and a half miles of sandy beaches, with visitors swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving off the coast. There’s also a pier, boat tours, and natural trails that take you through the abundant forests surrounding the park. Carillon Beach is also a popular spot with those on vacation with white, sugar soft beaches and turquoise seas. You’ll find plenty of luxury hotels in the area overlooking the breathtaking beaches, and a quiet resort that’s popular with families. The Bear Creek Feline Center is a small rescue center for rare breeds of big cats, and you can see many of these exotic felines up close, even stroking some of the tamer cats. At Panama City Marina you can watch boats of various sizes come in to dock, with restaurants and cafés overlooking the calm waters, and some boutiques and art galleries just a short stroll away.

Hotels in Panama City

Many Panama City hotels are close to the beach, with rooms offering balconies with magnificent sea views. You’ll also find that guestrooms have plenty of other amenities to make your stay comfortable, and these can include air-conditioning, coffee makers, hair dryers, LCD televisions, microwaves, refrigerators, extra towels, and daily housekeeping. Most hotels also have plenty of features that help you enjoy your vacation, such as indoor and outdoor pools, spa tubs, children’s pools, barbecue grills, laundry rooms, gardens, complimentary breakfasts, and WiFi. Some resorts also have casinos, nightclubs, and restaurants, with dining options such as all-inclusive packages available.

Where to stay

Away from the perfect tropical beaches, Panama City has a charming downtown area with well-maintained historic buildings, quirky boutiques, independent restaurants, and palm tree-lined streets. Many of the buildings such as the local cinema are in classic Art Deco style which stands in contrast to the more modern, high-rise buildings that tend to be set along the seafront.
