The Spanish style Mission Santa Ines was established by Franciscan priests before the city of Solvang even existed, and remains an active church to this day. The Hans Christian Andersen Museum has been built to the more typical Danish architectural style of the area, and this quaint museum has exhibits and displays about Anderson’s life and the inspiration for his stores. You’ll also find hundreds of volumes of his work on display, and in addition to his fairytales, Anderson also wrote plays, novels, and poetry which you can learn more about. The Elverhoj Museum of History and Art aims to preserve the Danish-American history of the area, with exhibits full of colorful crafts, intricate wooden carvings, and artwork with a Danish influence.
