One of the more pleasant bedroom communities serving Ohio’s capital of Columbus is the small town of Grove City. Many of Columbus’ top attractions are located around Grove City, so the town makes the perfect base for exploring this laid-back Midwest American city. The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a big highlight, as is the Zoombezi Bay Water Park. A solid range of amenities, including restaurants, shops, and hotels, ensures you don’t need to venture into the big city for fun.
Things to see
To get a glimpse into the farming roots of Grove City, plan an afternoon at the historic Gardens at Gantz Farm. This 1832 farm is now a lovely park centered around a series of herb gardens and workshops that showcase traditional crafts.
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is one of America’s best, featuring everything from Dinosaur Island to Stingray Bay. It’s a cool wildlife center that is as appealing to adults as it is fascinating for kids.
Right next to Grove City is COSI Columbus, one of America’s leading science centers. Learn about the future and the past in the six exhibit halls, then check out the huge extreme movie theater.
The Santa Maria is a perfectly recreated version of Christopher Columbus’ 1492 ship of the same name. Moored on the Scioto River, this accurate 98-foot ship can be boarded for a step back in time.
Try your luck at the Hollywood Casino, which features over 2,500 slot machines, 70 gaming tables, and three dozen live poker tables. Live entertainment and dining round off the nightly fun.
Hotels in Grove City
Just 10 miles from Columbus and 20 miles from Port Columbus, Grove City is the ideal base for travelers visiting the Greater Columbus area. There are over a dozen well-known American chain hotels right outside the center of town that provide a good range of amenities for everyone from families to business travelers.
A few of the chain hotels cater to well-heeled travelers who want more space in their room and better amenities, like indoor swimming pools and fitness centers. Grove City is also close enough to the southern edge of Columbus to take advantage of all the accommodation options along this side of the state capital.
Where to stay
Grove City is small enough that it has its own central hotel scene. The accommodation here is made up mainly of chain hotels located right on the fringes of town for easy driving access to Columbus.
The southern side of Columbus is just a few minutes’ drive from Grove City and offers even more chain motels along interstates 71 and 270, which connect Grove City to the capital.
South Columbus is an entire suburban town all of its town just a few minutes to the east of Grove City. This is another good option for affordable lodging as it is well-connected to the entire metropolitan area.
How to get to Grove City
Port Columbus International Airport is serviced by all of America’s main carriers and offers flights to most of the country’s big cities. Rental cars, shuttle vans, and taxis provide transport from the airport south to Grove City. Greyhound buses stop in Columbus, so most travelers arrive in the city by car if they aren’t flying.
