Hotels in Malibu, California, United States of America - your base to discover the city.
Malibu HotelsIn the northwest area of Los Angeles county lies the exclusive and upmarket beach city of Malibu. The area is famous for being the home of millionaires and movie stars who are drawn here by the picture perfect beaches, sprawling mountain landscapes, and protected wildlife areas. Despite feeling isolated, it's only a short drive from Los Angeles, and this allows you to enjoy a vacation where you have the best of both worlds. Things to seeMalibu Lagoon State Beach is a paradise for surfers, with long sandy beaches and clear seas with smooth breaking waves. The beach was a big part of Californian surfing culture in the 1960s, and since then has become a protected site thanks to the rare birds that have made their home amongst the sand dunes. Zuma Beach is one of the biggest in the area, with miles of flat golden sands and great swimming spots. It's been the location of many TV shows and films including Baywatch, and you'll spot plenty of lifeguards on duty in their iconic red uniforms. El Matador State Beach has a more natural and isolated feel, with giant rocks that glow red during the sunset, and choppy waves crashing on the shore. Take the steep, winding trails to the upper cliffs and you'll be rewarded with a spectacular view of the large boulders that make up this beach. If you'd rather explore on horseback then Malibu Equestrian Park can show you the best trails to take, with miles of sand dunes and shady pine trees making up the majority of this pleasant area. Hotels in MalibuThere's a small selection of hotels in Malibu and the surrounding areas that make use of the natural beauty of the area and its close proximity to Los Angeles. You can expect to find plenty of 4 and 5 star hotels close to the beach, and can enjoy facilities such as outdoor pools, fitness centers, restaurants, business centers, and concierge services. Where to stayMuch of Malibu is set along the seafront, with impressive beach houses and luxury apartments overlooking the unspoilt scenery. The main shopping and leisure area lies along the Pacific Coast Highway, nestled in the green hills, and along this major road you'll find both upmarket and family friendly restaurant, many of them specializing in sea food and offering vast views of the oceanfront. Malibu has the advantage of feeling rather isolated, despite being a short drive from the heart of Los Angeles, and those staying in the area will most likely need to rent a car to get around due to the remoteness of many of the facilities. How to get to MalibuMost visitors to the area arrive via the sprawling Los Angeles International Airport which is around a 45 minute drive away. There are many car rental desks in each terminal, and plenty of cabs available to pick up. If you don't have access to a car you can take the airport bus to the LAX bus center, travel to Santa Monica, and then take another direct bus to Malibu. This takes between 90 minutes and 2 hours depending on the traffic and is a cheap way to travel around.
