"Ladies Night"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 3, 2012
I stayed here one night for a party night after working a couple days in DC. I chose this hotel over some cheaper ones because, well, I'm a hotel snob and I wanted to stay at a fun and posh hotel. It's also in a great area and close to Eighteenth Street Lounge, which is where my gal pals and I were going to the night we stayed here. The room we were checked into smelled like cigarette smoke, so we were immediately moved to a cleaner room. Thanks! The staff was super friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed staying here, and I would highly consider staying again if I am ever in DC.
"Very nice hotel on waterfront"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 3, 2012
Hotel is close to Maine Ave, just a pedestrian walk away from Phillips Seafood if you don't want to dine at one of the hotels restaurants. But if you're looking for breakfast on the weekend, you'll have to dine-in. Food was delicious. It's located in a business neighborhood and all starbucks are closed on the weekends because the businesses aren't open. Even the CVS that is across the street is closed at 5pm. If you want to shop, you'll have to take the metro. Valet parking was $49.
"Great location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 3, 2012
After reading reviews for this hotel, I was a bit nervous staying there, but had a conference rate I couldn't match on my own. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. The hotels location is great. It's only about a 1/2 block from the DuPont Circle Metro, good restaurants, and if you enjoy older architecture, you'll be surrounded by it in this area. The pillow top beds were excellent and my room was clean. The person who checked me in seemed frazzled and a bit short with me, but when I remained courteous she responded in kind. My room had no hair dryer, which surprised me when you consider the cost of the room. The continental breakfast was better than what I have had at chain hotels and motels. Everyone really liked the coffee!

"Pretty Happy"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 1, 2012
Reading the other reviews on hotels.com definitely helped us maximize our stay at Hotel Rouge. E.g. we steered clear of the expensive bar and breakfast buffet and I was prepared for the $100 credit card hold (I think the concierge actually might've said it was $100 *per night* but I haven't checked my statement yet). One thing I would say that I was displeased about had to do with parking: once again, I was expecting the outrageous valet rates because of having read reviews beforehand. A couple of days before our stay, I called and asked about alternative parking options. I was told that there is street parking around the hotel but it's hard to come by and there are 2-hour limits on all street spots. It's probably true that finding a spot could've been dicey; however, the information about the 2-hour limits was very misleading. In the neighborhood surrounding the Hotel Rouge, the 2-hour limit on street parking only applies M-F, 8:30-4:30. We were staying on a weekend so that information was completely inapplicable to us. As it happens, we still won the parking war by driving to a Metro station in Maryland, parking there, and taking the Metro to Dupont Circle (it cost us $4.75 to park for the whole weekend) but I definitely felt a little lied to about the street parking situation. If you're going on a weekend: be prepared to search for street parking but know that it DOES exist.

I loved the hotel. All the things I wanted to see were within close walking distance. I didn't feel unsafe walking around at night, although there is some sort of homeless shelter a block or so away. The room was clean and the bed was amazingly comfortable. The next time I'm in DC I will make sure to stay here again!
