It sounds like the stuffy part of London, but this is actually an odd neighborhood of LA that is best known as Little Saigon – an overseas ‘capital’ for 36,000 Vietnamese Americans. Close by are the beaches at Huntington, amusement parks, and Westminster Mall shopping hub, and the city is surrounded by the conurbations of Huntington Beach, Anaheim, and Buena Park. If you’re not here to visit your Asian relatives, you’re almost certainly en-route to Disney Land nearby.
Hotels in Westminster
Hotels in Westminster spread out as far as the beaches and offer a choice of well-known US chains or individual accommodation, all at 2- and 3-star levels. Although there are no luxury hotels as such, available accommodation is comfortable, modern, and set in attractive areas.
Outdoor pools come as standard, taking full advantage of the glorious California sunshine, and are close to the city’s attractions and the beaches. Two-star budget hotels such as the Super 8 Westminster offer value for money and, for a luxury break, the spectacular Arts and Crafts style Disney Grand Californian Hotel in nearby Anaheim is the place to spoil yourself on a family Californian vacation.
Where to stay
If days on the beach and in the surf with your family make for an ideal vacation, head for Huntington Beach district’s Comfort Inn with its free-form outdoor swimming pool and family-style accommodation. Business travelers will appreciate the 24-hour business center at the Best Western Palm Garden Inn as well as its high-speed internet access.
The Hyatt House Cypress at Anaheim offers business facilities, including meeting and conference rooms. Even if you’re not into Disney, for a romantic splurge you can’t do better than the Disney Grand Californian Hotel, intriguingly designed as a turn-of-the-century luxury lodge.
