Longview HotelsAlthough Longview is a fairly large city with several colleges, and cultural events, it has a pleasant small town vibe. Wander around the charming downtown area and you’ll enjoy boutiques and art galleries housed in historic buildings, and there are plenty of attractions from the dramatic Civil War period where the area was a stronghold for the Confederate army. Longview Mall has dozens of popular chain clothing shops, as well as major department stores, and there are plenty of fast food outlets where you can grab a snack during your shopping spree. Downtown you’ll find the leafy campus of LeTourneau University, a Christian university that specializes in engineering, computer science, and business, and the college is host to several sports teams including football and basketball. The Maude Cobb Convention Center is a modern facility with plenty of light, airy space for meetings, conventions, and private parties, and you’ll even see the occasional fast-paced roller derby match taking place in the main building. Wiley College is famous for being a historically black college, specializing in the liberal arts and with a wide range of sports taking place on campus. The area also hosts the East Texas University, a Baptist college which has a beautiful campus with early 20th century architecture, as well as a pleasant quad with a fountain and plenty of green spaces. How to get to LongviewBoth Marshall Station and Longview Station have regular Amtrak services on the Texas Eagle line. From here you can travel as far as Chicago, San Antonio, or Los Angeles on the comfortable Amtrak sleeper trains. If you’re in a hurry, then arriving via East Texas Regional Airport is usually the quickest route, as the airport is less than 10 miles south of Longview. There are regular shuttles from Dallas/Fort Worth, and if you pick up a rental car you can be in the city in around 20 minutes. Taking the train from Dallas to Longview is also comfortable and cheap, with the journey taking about 2 and a half hours.
