Dearborn Hotels

There's one name you'll see a lot when in Dearborn, and that's Henry Ford. This, after all, is the home town of the iconic automobile pioneer, and the car connection extends further eastwards towards the sprawling metropolis of Detroit. Dearborn is more than just an outlying suburb of Motor City, though. It's a place of pastoral pleasures, with its many parks and playgrounds, and once you've had your fill of nature there's superb shopping to be had here as well.

Things to see

It's arguably the biggest attraction in Michigan, both in size and popularity, and once you visit The Henry Ford you'll see why. This mammoth museum complex, pretty much a town in itself, features some of the most important artefacts and buildings from American history. It's here that you can see the actual limousine President Kennedy was riding in when he was assassinated. Not to mention the chair Lincoln was sat in when he was shot. You'll also see Thomas Edison's laboratory and the bus in which Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat, igniting the Civil Rights movement of Martin Luther King. Entire houses and shops have been relocated here for the Greenfield Village part of the museum, including the Wright Brothers' cycle repair store where they put together the first plane. Another exhibition space is the Arab American National Museum – Dearborn is the ideal location, given that it has the biggest Arab American population in the States. If you're after retail therapy, you can indulge to your heart's content at the Fairlane Town Center mall, while for a taste of the great outdoors take a hike or bike ride along the Rouge River Gateway Greenway Trail.
