In 1864 Carnton Plantation witnessed one of the nastiest confrontations of the American Civil War, the Battle of Franklin. Whilst the battle only lasted 5 hours, it claimed the lives of thousands. Today, the McGavock Confederate Cemetery commemorates the fallen, whilst the elegant plantation house serves as a museum. Another must-visit site for history buffs is the Lotz House Museum. Dating back to 1858, the prim white abode provides a glimpse back in time, with its authentic interiors and vast collection of antiquities. For those in need of retail therapy, the CoolSprings Galleria shopping complex offers a satisfying session. With 5 department stores and over 165 shops, you’ll find everything from big name fashion fixes and cosmetics, to home ware, electronics, and toys. Capturing the romance of simpler times, Franklin Theatre has been a community favorite since 1937. Along with movie showings, the venue also hosts theatrical productions and performances from celebrated country crooners.

How to get to Franklin

Situated just a 23 mile drive away, Nashville International is Franklin’s nearest airport. Well linked to most major US cities including Chicago, Denver, New York, and Los Angeles, connecting flights are easily made should you need them. Once you’ve landed a shuttle transfer or taxi can whisk you into Franklin, whilst Nashville’s MTA bus service provides a cheaper alternative. The Route 18 travels from the airport to downtown Nashville, from where you can hop aboard the Route 91X bus into Franklin. The area is also reachable via the Greyhound bus line, which stops in the center of Nashville.
