Denver Hotels

Often overlooked by road trippers on their way to friendly Boulder and the iconic Rocky Mountains, Denver’s eclectic mix of retro Old West and hip cosmopolitan cool might not be such a big pull, but it’s just as fun in its own right. You’ll catch a glimpse of old school Denver among the thriving modern metropolis – traditional pubs serve up microbrews and cowboy stores nestle among gleaming malls. If you’re into the arts, Denver’s cultural scene is thriving with outdoor summertime concerts, world-class theater shows, and chic galleries.

Things to see

Whether you’re hitting the malls to stock up on the latest fashions, catching a show at Denver Performing Arts Complex, or checking out the newest dishes to come from the swanky restaurant scene, downtown Denver’s awash with things to do and see. If you’ve got the family in tow, keep little ones amused with a trip to Denver’s Downtown Aquarium, awash with colorful marine life. Denver Zoo’s another family favorite, where kids can go wild at the sight of the city’s fluffiest residents, as is nearby Denver Museum of Nature and Science thanks to its colorful hands-on exhibits. Baseball fans should head to Coors Field to catch the Denver Rockies in their latest Major League Baseball game. And if all that activity gets too much, Denver Botanic Gardens are a haven of serenity among the city center buzz. Filled with colorful blooms in summer, you can stroll among glassy ponds, and watch as crane flies flit from flower to flower.

Hotels in Denver

From gleaming glass-fronted high-end hotels to traditional 4 star accommodation, Denver excels in luxury. Check in to a boutique hotel if you like small hotels with personal touches and opulent decor – think art-clad walls, lavish fabrics, and glamorous bathrooms. Large mid and high-end Denver hotels provide ample facilities including large rooms, in-room dining options, and often on-site gym, sauna, and sport centers, perfect for families and business travelers. If your budget doesn’t stretch to these luxuries, plenty of 2 star guesthouses and motels offer clean, modern rooms at discount rates, though they might be further from downtown.

Where to stay

In downtown Denver skyscrapers and high-rise hotels jostle for space among busy malls, high end restaurants, and tooting cars. This is the place to go for 24-hour entertainment, where you can wine and dine before a show, head to a pub for late night drinks, and grab a pizza at 3am. It’s a hub for retail therapy, the city’s arts scene, and where you’ll find big family friendly attractions. A bit further out, Glendale and Cherry Creek are popular suburban areas with plenty of 2 and 3 star hotels, a huge mall in Cherry Creek, and coffee shops galore. About 30 minutes from downtown, Centennial’s a burgeoning business area thanks to the Denver Tech Center.

How to get to Denver

If you’re flying to Denver you’ll land at Denver International Airport. As a large transit hub, it has flight connections to pretty much every major US city. Most national car rental firms operate from the airport, though if you’re just planning to stay in downtown Denver for your whole vacation, you might prefer to avoid the hassle of driving, as the city can get jammed up and parking charges can be steep in places. Much better to hop on a shuttle bus to get to the city and then use the downtown public light-rail system to get around.
