Annapolis Hotels

Jutting out on a fractured isthmus of the Eastern US seaboard, life and heritage in Annapolis is very much influenced by the swells and flows of water. The vast blue sheen of Cheapsake Bay not only provides incredible natural beauty, but has also gives Annapolis the title of ‘Sailing Capital of the World’. Yachts fill the marina, and the city hosts numerous high-profile regattas. In the terracotta-hued downtown, a lively cultural and restaurant scene keeps both locals and visitors entertained.

Things to see

The city center is paved with red bricks, which are also a feature of the historic buildings. It creates a distinctive and attractive central area, particularly when the flowers are in full bloom at every corner. It is full of character and local pride: the Maryland State House is located here, one of the longest-functioning in the United States. Its octagonal dome and classical, pillared entrance makes it particularly photogenic. Located nearby is an even more impressive complex of buildings: the US Naval Academy. The grand, austere halls have seen centuries of midshipmen pass through, and the current students still march through the extensive grounds wearing their pressed white uniforms. Guided tours are available every day. Further east, you’ll see the majestic sweep of the Cheapsake Bay Bridge, a suspension bridge linking 2 state parks. Sandy Point State Park offers beautiful stretches of beach on the edge of the lake.
