Indulge in retail therapy in the air-conditioned corridors of glitzy megamalls, be inspired by masterful creations in elaborate galleries and museums, and explore the grounds of its university campus, discovering scientific marvels and unique academies. The streets of Las Cruces are busy and bustling, a typically American town with fast-flowing interstates and concentrated residential neighborhoods.

Things to see

At the heart of Las Cruces, minutes from the lively town center, the Mesilla Valley Mall is the city’s premier shopping destination. Inside its packed marble-floored galleries, tempting window displays form a retail gauntlet of glittering baubles, aromatic perfumes, and artisan foods. Make your way to the food court to top up your energy levels. It’s easy to find thanks to the cacophony of sound and aromas that hang in the air. While most restaurants here are internationally-recognized fast-food joints, there are one or two unusual eateries that beckon you inside with alternative menus and real flair. At the Las Cruces Museum of Art, there are more than just a few paintings to marvel at on the walls. Children can enjoy the simple pleasure of storytime when weekends come around, artwork exhibitions and workshops let you get hands-on experience at creating your own masterpieces, and a packed events calendar sees everything from gala days and monthly festivals to classical extravaganzas fill its halls. By contrast, the stoic façade of the New Mexico State University hides some unusual artifacts in its various museums. Discover exotic species of bugs in its Arthropod Museum, or prowl the hallways of the Foreman’s Engineering Complex and see over 80 years of audio engineering carefully preserved.

Hotels in Las Cruces

The majority of the hotels in Las Cruces are contemporary chain motels with urban decor, simple but functional furniture, and modern amenities. In general, you’ll benefit from high-speed internet access or WiFi, a good standard of en-suite bathroom, comfortable beds, and free parking. At the lower end of the budget – there aren’t really any luxury hotels in Las Cruces – discount hotels typically offer spacious rooms with en-suite facilities. They might not be as modern in style, and they tend to sit a little further out of town but for a cheap holiday in this New Mexico destination they’re a very good choice.

Where to stay

Hotels in Las Cruces can be found all over this sprawling southern town, sitting in modern complexes that are fed by fast-flowing interstates and highways, or tucked away down inner-city streets that lead to its extensive university campus and shop-filled megamalls. For a wide choice, Interstate 10 runs past University Park and South Main Street, a popular area crammed full of auto garages, take-out restaurants, and terracotta-painted shops selling local souvenirs. A little further out, almost on the edge of town, West Picacho Avenue plays host to a variety of discount hotels that offer easy access to its central shopping streets as well as excellent transport links to local attractions.
