Macon Hotels

The cultural heart of Georgia, Macon is renowned for its superb museums and strong musical heritage, which boasts the likes of Otis Redding and Randy Crawford amongst the legends who lived and worked there. There’s plenty for sports fans too, with an Olympic Hall of Fame and an energetic sporting season. Add to that a helping of soulful, smoky cooking which is served up in the city’s popular restaurants and it’s hard to resist the temptation of this southern belle.

Things to see

Macon’s lively city center is characterized by red clay buildings – showing off the sun-baked earth of the south all over town. Within these charming, historic walls, a wealth of museums exhibit the area’s multilayered heritage. One of the most outstanding and important is the Harriet Tubman Museum. Named after the great anti-slavery heroine, the museum has a stellar collection of African-American exhibitions. Another of Macon’s cultural institutions is the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, where the city’s Olympic moments of glory are celebrated, attracting sports fans from far and wide. As for its celebrated musical legacy, there may not be a bay in Macon, but you can still sit on the dock with a bronze statue of Otis Redding. Then, when the sun sets on a sultry Georgia evening, the music becomes more than just history, with soulful blues playing out in the restaurants, bars, and clubs throughout the city.
