With a menagerie of themed exhibits from the Congo Gorilla Forest to Tiger Mountain, visitors can see everything from majestic tigers to smiling crocodiles. The Edgar Allan Poe Cottage was where the great writer penned some of his most famous work. Open for tours, the quaint little white farmhouse has been authentically restored, and even includes the very rocking chair Poe once sat in. Van Cortlandt Park is a sprawling 1146-acre urban oasis. Home to a golf course, sporting grounds, a lake and numerous trails, the lush leafy haven bursts into color come fall, with a vibrant display of autumn hues.

How to get to Bronx

If you’re flying into NYC chances are you’ll be landing at John F. Kennedy International, LaGuardia, or Newark Liberty International Airports. If you don’t want to pay for a cab to take you into Bronx once you’ve landed, Both JFK and Newark are home to AirTrain stations. These can cheaply and conveniently link you up to the city’s expansive subway system. From there, it’s just a case of navigation. The borough can be reached from anywhere in the city, on subway lines 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and B and D. Stops at 149 St. Grand Concourse Station and Yankees East 153 St. Station are 2 prominent gateways into the Bronx buzz.
