"Great location- could improve organization"
Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Nov 19, 2013
This was my second time staying at the Sheraton in Ankara. It is in a great location, walking distance to many shops, restaurants, and great cafes. There is even a Carrefore (grocery store) nearby to pick up snacks. Most recently, I flew into Ankara from Korea and was incredibly jetlagged upon arriving at the hotel at 10:00am. Even though it was much too early to check in, the kind hotel staff took pity on my having traveled for 20 hours and allowed me to check in early (THANK YOU). That being said, there were some things that they could improve on (as I know they are recently under new management and are trying to make an effort to improve. For one, I had a package delivered about 4 days before my arrival with BIG CLEAR instructions to hold the package for me. When I asked the reception whether it had arrived, they said it hadn't. I then checked the tracking info, and in fact it had arrived but the hotel could not find it. Finally, they tracked down the employee who had signed for it and were about to find it about 48 hours later. So, the package was ultimately found but I had to follow up quite a few times for anything to be done. This whole ordeal could have been avoided had their been a system in place to deal with this situation. In addition, breakfast was not included and would have been extremely expensive to add on. There is a free internet option, but was very very slow, so be aware of that as well.
"Nice hotel, close to shopping & transportation"
Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jun 21, 2013
Nice hotel in the best part of town that's within walking distance of major shopping areas & metro. Many fine cafes & restaurants surrounding the hotel. US Embassy, as well as other embassies, are 10-15 minute walk or a short taxi ride away. Taxis are always available and the fare is very reasonable. My wife & I were pleasantly surprised by how clean, green, and beautiful Ankara was. We'd a delightful time visiting the major attractions & shopping. The breakfast was very good with made to order omelet and a selection of hot foods, breads, cereals, cheeses, fruits, and beverages. One highlight of the hotel is the turkish bath which is made of white marble. The pool & the fitness rooms are pretty small, but adequate. We didn't use the dry sauna. Garden view rooms are quite & have a nice view at night.
I can recommend the Atalay Hotel if you are looking for very good service and good value for money. It is clean and centrally located. Very good choice for exploring Ankara.
Reasons to choose the Hotel Atalay:
- great and service minded staff. They were all very polite, professional, helpful and they contributed to make my stay an enjoyble one
- great value for money
- clean hotel
- complementary wifi and bottled water
- centrally located for exploring the old town
- possible to reach the hotel with bus 442 from and to the airport. Stops 300-500 meters away from the Atalay hotel
- good amenities
Reasons not to:
- heavily trafficked street right outside the hotel which means more or less continuously noise
- pollution from the traffic, road dust etc
- hotelareas which smelled strongly of old smoke
The room was clean and adequate, but not the most modern one. The rooms are not that big, but the bed was comfortable with nice linen. The hotel provides nice amenities. It was not possible to keep the window open at night because of the noise and pollution from the traffic. The room is equipped with air condition so this might be a substitute for lack of open window. Based on the room and general standard my evaluation is that this is a very good three star hotel, but not really a four star. Anyway, three star or four star - the Atalay hotel provides great value for money.
