"Large Clean Rooms, a bit inconvenient location"
Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 7, 2013
The room was very large, and well appointed/designed. It could have used better lighting (a little dark in areas). The shower was very large/nice, but water took over 5 minutes to heat up and my friend in another room did not have hot water at all, they had to move him to take a shower. The outdoor hot tub is nice, but is not heated, so it might be good for a hot afternoon cool down, but is not what you would normally think of as a "hot" tub. The hotel is about 10 minutes up the hill from Patong beach, so it's a bit inconvenient as you cannot walk there and the tuk tuks try to charge you more saying it's "up the hill" as if it burns more gas. The restaurant upstairs was very nice and the free internet is fast. Overall, the staff speak relatively little english, so other than one or two people at the front desk, it's difficult to get help. The other venue I stayed at was Le Meridien, which has about similar quality rooms, but overall is a MUCH better resort, as it has a private beach and many more amenities, while being the same distance to patong beach.
"Western-style comfort at Thailand-style prices"
Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Dec 17, 2012
This was the nicest hotel I stayed at in Thailand, and easily one of the least expensive as well. The hotel is in the south Patong area, a block or two from the beach, and a short, inexpensive taxi or tuk tuk ride from the nightlife area. (The nightlife area itself is quite noisy and a bit of a scene, so I think you're better off being a short taxi ride away.) The room are very clean and well-appointed. The staff is friendly. And the pool is nice and relaxing. My only complaint is that, like other reviewers, I found the shower to be quite cold. I used the shower head in the separate bathtub, which was fine. Overall, I recommend this hotel highly. I ended up extending my stay in Phuket for a few more nights, and I tried a different hotel further north (the Album Hotel) -- but it was difficult to get to sleep there because there's so much street noise. It's a good idea to be a little bit outside the main area. I ended up moving back to the Mercure, and I definitely would stay here again on a return visit.
"Not a property worthy of Swissotel"
Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Oct 30, 2012
Having stayed at other Swissotel properties, this one is not of the same standard. Though the service was good, that unique quality I found in the warmth of the staff was present, though lacking a surprising percentage of the time. I felt as if I could have been in any big chain.
"Still the only hotel right on the beach!"
Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Oct 12, 2012
I've been to Phuket numerous times and this hotel remains my favorite. It is the only hotel that is literally right on the beach. Before the tsunami, there were several hotels right on the beach, but unfortunatly, not any more. The Patong Bay Garden Hotel was not even damaged [much] by the tsunami, and I find that very comforting, being that close to the water, since I saw what happened to the other hotels. [they went out to sea in case you're wondering]. Other hotels have better breakfasts, nicer rooms, etc., but if you want to walk out your bedroom door and into the ocean-this is the place for you!
"Perfect Phuket Getaway"
Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Aug 21, 2012
The hotel is located at the end of Patong Beach and as such is a little less noisy, busy, crowded than the rest of the beach which was a nice break from the bustle of Phuket. It is directly across the street from the beach. The neighborhood directly around the hotel looks a little rough, but we always felt pretty safe. Though not brand new,the hotel is a nice facility. It is clean, maintained and has plenty of amenities (pool, gym, safe, beach towels, robes, umbrella, breakfast, free welcome drinks, internet was a bit sporadic, but whachagonnado). The staff is friendly, helpful and speaks english well. The daily breakfast is awesome with something for every taste and national origin. We scheduled a tour through the tour desk and it was amazing for a decent price. We had a great vacation at the Graceland hotel and would recommend it and book there again.
