"Quiet location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Sep 11, 2012
Excellent small hotel in quiet area close enough to town for 70 year olds to walk.Clean, good room size, excellent dining room, although menu would be limited for someone on half board staying a week. No view of ocean might be drawback to some.
"good hotel"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Aug 27, 2012
The hotel is clean, friendly, and grounds of the hotel are excellent. The view is fantastic. The clients are mostly mature couples from France and Britain with some Germans and Russians. The food in the gourment restaurant is good. The regular hotel restaurant is also fine, but nothing outstanding. The hotel is located close to resort area, and a bit removed from the Funchal historic centre, about 5 euro by taxi or 20 mins walk. Good value for money and it seems one of the best places in town
"Spahotell ith seaview"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Aug 7, 2012
The hotel was quite ok. For a five star hotel the service in the room was not so good. We had to ask for the minibar, because there was none in our room, no glasses in the bathroom for tooothbrushes. We got the minibar and new glasses, when we claimed at the reception, but this should be automatically. Dirty glasses were not taken away and changed. The spa was very good!! The food was ok, but nothing special, so we decided to go out for dinner after trying the food once in the hotel. The room was very comfortable itself and convieniet with the big store for clothes.
"Excellent for rest and relaxation"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jul 30, 2012
The hotel was excellent, very luxurious with several pools and beautiful gardens. It was a good place for my husband and I to rest after a trip to Morocco. However, there were two things the hotel could do to improve: to offer free wifi in the rooms and some information about things to do on the island. The hotel had wifi in the lobby but not in the rooms, then sent me a letter, slipping it under the door, asking me for my email. Why should I give the hotel my email when I could only access my email from the lobby and only for a half hour for free? Next, the desk offered very little information about tours or companies offering walking or activities on the island. That would have been a nice touch. They had a hallway that offered information, but very little of it was in English. That said, the breakfast was fantastic, great service. The rest of the hotel was spotless and every single person there was helpful in every single way. As I said, it is a great place to relax and regroup.

Great hotel -- friendly and knowledgable staff. Rooms are very comfortable and well sized for a European hotel. Will be back.

"Convenient resort - family oriented"Reviewed by Benoit T of "Paris, France" on Aug 31, 2011
We spent a week at this hotel for a summer vacation and we were satisfied by its overall value. The superior rooms are spacious and offer a great sea view. It is located in the Lido which is the hotel area of Funchal (not close but within walkable distance of the historical center) where you can find plenty of good evening spots. The breakfast buffet was really convincing though I would not recommend their Italian restaurant (food was average, slow service and you can find way better 5min away from there). The cons are related to the huge size of the resort: we clearly felt like being 2 out of hundreds of guests. In spite of the modern design, the hotel has no cachet and the staff is nice but not as dedicated as what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. Besides, it was full of families with young children so don't expect to relax (I would tell the management to improve that especially at the swimming pools with children diving and playing all around...) Overall, I would recommend this hotel for its quality although I was expecting a more exclusive treatment.
"Beautiful place to stay at"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jul 18, 2011
I stayed in this hotel with my parents for one week and we had a good time. People are very kind and helpful in the hotel. It's clean and well maintained. There could be different choices at breakfast on the different days as this can be boring for people after a while. The restaurant's food is not recommended, it simply has no taste but there are many restaurants in the surrounding area. The swimming pool area is well maintained and the bar is a good place to get some refreshment in the hot weather. There is path down to the ocean/ beach ... the cost of getting into the beach is 4.5EUR ... it would have been a nice gesture by the hotel if the hotel guests could enter the beach for free. The downtown of the city is quite a long walk, but it's a nice walk. Overall we had a great time and I wouldnt mind staying in this hotel once again.

We were a little nervous about booking the "charming room", thinking that it might overlook a parking lot and be tiny, but we were very surprised and pleased to have a sufficiently sized room (just a bit on the small side - only really noticed since we couldn't roll the room service cart over to the balcony as it wouldn't fit). We had an amazing view from the balcony and would have no hesitation staying there again. The hotel and staff were impeccable. The location was great for the view, though it was a 12-15 minute downhill walk to the center of town (and therefore a nice hike back up to the hotel).
