Hotel pretty good ...Internet WIFI should be free with such costly rate............. Room were good//view and service cleaning satff..........................Need large or more fitness/ weight room.............................Breakfast need more choices,/options”
The location was good, room was nice, staff helpfull and spoke good english. The bartender in the lobby bar was very serviceminded and really put an effort in when mixing drinks, with excellent results. Good place to stay.”
This hotel lived up to every positive comment written. Beautiful room, great service and food. Incrediable views of beach and very, very secure. The only 2 compliants I had was the quality of the beds themselves were poor. For a luxury hotel and given all the other wonderful amenities, the beds are rock hard. the other concern was the outrageous charge for Wifi, $27/day!!!! Given free wifi is avaialable throughout Rio, I found this charge outragious plus Porto Bay offers free wifi at their other location, just not in Rio...robbery!!! Its unfortunate because everything else was top notch. From the welcoming sparkling wine, to the special Brazilian coconut treat delivered by the manager to my room that evening to the nightly chocolates on my pillow and the great quality breakfast every morning. Around the corner is a great beauty salon to get a $20 Brazilian Wax performed with surgical perfection, but avoid getting your nails done there. It was a disaster. Porto Bay Rio is located right on iconic Copacabana Beach. IGreat location, great service.”
We spent two nights at the Novotel in February 2013. the room was great, large enough for two with two surfboards and a few bags from 6 weeks of vacation. The service was great- they let us check in at 10am (we had the first morning flight into Sao Paulo) and also a late check out as our flight going home was at 11pm! No fuss when we asked, the reception staff simply checked if it was possible and told us it was fine. The hotel is within 10 minutes walk from the wonderful municipal theater and the old city (Monastary Sao Bento etc..). We also went out for dinner and a show at the Brahma, which is walking distance (more or less 15 minutes via Pr, Republica). The hotel's gym is big enough however, there were no towels and the air conditioning didnot work very well. It is the reason I rated "4" for the maintenance of the hotel. Everything else was great!”
This was my second stay in the hotel. I find the location very good if your main action area is Jardins. Not so good for romantic stays, the room is very small and there is no pool but the location is great. The staff is very helpfull, ready to do extra work to help. Rooms are clean but very small. Nice breakfast. Would definitely return to this hotel again while.”
The hotel is located on Avenue Paulista which appears to be the main commercial street of Sao Paulo. It has a subway station out front and plenty of restaurants nearby. The hotel itself was extremely well presented with bar and restaurant facilities. I didn't sample the restaurant beyond breakfast but can comment that breakfast was reasonably extensive and catered for most needs. Bar prices were reasonable (about US$5 for a beer) and free wifi was a bonus. Be prepared for expensive cab rides though. My ride back to the international airport cost $140 Rials - about US$80) for a 24km ride!”
Very large room with wooden floor and two balconies. We loved our stay. The only glitch was that we were late 5 minutes to the breakfast and we weren't granted not even a fruit or yoghurt to take to our room...”
A fine hotel with some of the only free WiFi around. Good restaurant too.”
We booked this stay as part of our 25th wedding anniversary celebration. We went for one of the nicer rooms, with a balcony and facing the water. Gorgeous view! We had a wonderful and relaxing time. Overall we were very satisfied. I'll just note the following: 1. The carpet was worn and stained. We travel a lot, but don't normally stay in hotels of this price range. It seemed odd that a "super nice" hotel would have old, stained carpet. 2. The lock on the glass door leading to the balcony was broken; we couldn't get it open, but it was also not secure. A guy with a screwdriver would be inside in 5 seconds. They were very quick to come fix it, but I could tell that it had been patched up several times before. Note to maintenance: do it right the first time. Everything else at this place was in beautiful shape. The architecture was stunning! The location, right on the lake, is a gorgeous. Others complained about it being far out. This is only partially true. First of all, Brasilia isn't that big, so it doesn't take that long to get anywhere. This place is 15 minutes or less from downtown and the government sector. But the location and views are very beautiful and relaxing. There are nice hotels downtown. If you need to be close in, go for that - but you're going to be in a high rise with a small pool on the roof and no outside areas to speak of. This is a beautiful and expansive piece of property right on the water, with beautiful gardens, a huge swimming pool and lots of walking paths. One other consideration on the location: taxis are available, but of course you'll pay more because of the location/distance. Buses run on the street outside the front gate, but are not nearly as frequent as they would be in the downtown area. So it will take you more time to get places, but for us it was still worth it. Our only other negative was the amount of time it took to get our car out of the garage. They wanted to do valet parking, which is fine as long as it doesn't take”
Generally a very good choice if you want to lie by the infinity pool and enjoy a bit of R&R. My only real niggle is that some of the bar staff on occasion do not give first priority to serving the guests. Whilst I am sure polishing glasses and moving stock around is vitally important, it is not AS important as serving the customers. Better management in this direction would help!”
There are two things that they don't tell you when one is entertaining travelling to Salvador i) the climate can make the rooms in the hotels, even 5 star hotels, damp and smelly and ii) don't walk around on the streets - you'll get mugged. The Othon was a delightful respite from problem i). Problem ii) will take a lot more effort to sort out, but even now Salvador as a destination is still worth the risk.”
Very nice hotel, a bit from the airport and the center of Salvador. I honestly didn't care though. It was not really any good beaches around, there were some small with chairs and unmbrellas to rent, however the hotel pool was good. I would say the hotel got so good for us because of the staff there. They were extremly helpful and always went over what they were expected to do. It was some places in the close by to eat at but not too much of a choise. However if you took a cab for maybe 15 min you could get into the center and to Bahia Marina pretty comfortly.”
