It doesn't look like much from the outside, particularly with that small side entrance, but I was reassured once I walked in. Great lobby, great service, great rooms. My friends and I stayed for 2 nights in the two bedroom suite. Decor was good, good beds, great views. The location is great, right across the beach, close to shopping, close enough to Jaffa, and close to the nightlife. There is a small issue with the noise level, Herbert Samuel is a loud street, 24/7, but definitely not a deal breaker. The big let down of the area is Allenby street from 10p.m to 8a.m. They should call it crackhead street; it smells like urine. Tel Aviv has changed a lot in the last few years since my last visit; hopefully the new construction will push some of that badness out.”
If you're looking for the lap of luxury, stay at the Dan ...and pay four times as much. Ben Yehuda Apartments hotel is a ten-minute walk from the beach. The hotel has no breakfast room, but the rooms do have a fridge, sink, microwave and hotplate and there are several good breakfast options, from cheap to upscale, close by. It also had a large flat-screen TV. It also has a student hostel, but we stayed in the hotel. The room was spotlessly clean and everything worked. The people at the desk (more of an office) were always friendly and helpful. Sadly, the office wasn't open as often as we hoped, so it got pretty busy at times. But, when the staff were free, they gave us all the time to think about how to plan our stay, where to eat, or just chat about life in Israel. We will certainly return there.”
We stayed in a few hotels in Tel Aviv and this was our fave. The concierge was so helpful and gave us tips only a local would know. The location near Neve Tzedek and Yafo was super and close to hot spots. The room was really nice size and clean. The large lobby entrance gives a welcome feeling.”
Overall ideally located, walking distance to the City Center as well as Damascus Gate. The condition of our room was clean and well maintained and appreciated afternoon treat of delivered dates and water at the door. Reception at initial sign in, however, was a bit slow for my taste, and the staff was not as willing to be helpful. Breakfast buffet was huge and varied, and catered to all tastes.”
Overall the hotel is excellent. However, the air conditioning was too loud in our room. Also they were redecorating some of the rooms, so there was a constant smell of fresh paint. Housekeeping have a tendency to leave their trollies and vacuum cleaners in the corridor, which made getting through with a buggy quite difficult. The breakfast was amazing, the selection and quality of the food was outstanding.”
The hotel is quite conveniently located. Trams are a couple of minutes away and it is only a ten minute walk to the bus station over a very interesting looking suspension bridge. There are always Taxis available if that is your preference. I found the staff pleasant and the concierge was very helpful. The pool is small but fine if you have young kids. There is a paddling pool for toddlers too. Good place for a short stay.”
Overall we had a wonderful family stay at Herod's. From the room to the food to the pool to the kids club to the convenience to the friendliness - it was all wonderful. The only downer part was that there was a problem with the booking over the internet - there is no drop down menu for kids on the booking site, so i noted in the 'special requests' that the room would have 2 adults and 2 children, but this was not picked up and we were very disappointed at check-in to find that not only was our room that was already booked and paid for not going to work, but there was a tremendous upcharge. ALSO, i must have missed it, but at this hotel, the internet fees are very high AND only good for one device, so my wife and i each had to pay separately for wireless in the same room - absolutely ridiculous. So what seemed like an appropriate 'too good to be true' price on the internet came off feeling like we had been duped a bit. Part was our fault for not seeing the fine print, but also, the booking site was quite inadequate. HOWEVER, overall, i totally recommend this hotel and would consider staying there again in the future.”
I have only 1 complaint about this hotel (other than the fact that you have to pay for internet), the hallway from the elevator to the room was filthy. There were cigarette butts and trash and generally just dirty. It was quite surprising really considering the rest of the hotel including the lobby, rooms, and pool area were spotlessly clean... My advice is, for the price, close your eyes to get from the elevator to your room...”
The breakfast buffet was wonderful. A very wide assortment of very appealing foods, including an omlette station. I was very disappointed that the pool was not heated, except on Saturday, so it was a struggle to remain in the water. The view was spectacular. The beach was very disappointing. Mostly a few rocks. So that description was somewhat misleading. The health club was also a bit disappointing- there was a jacuzzi, sauna and steamroom. The changing area was small, but there were 2 showers. The resort staff was accommodating and lovely. The rooms were very nice. There was a sitting room with a balcony with a lovely view. So, it was a mixed bag. The hotel lobby had beautiful views of the water. The restaurant was under renovation, but the breakfast room was lovely. It was very clean and well kept.”
The plaza hotel is located right on the pedestrian mall across from the sound and light show. Due to the recent heavy rains the show is closed until mid March. Hotel rooms are showing their age but they are clean with no major deficiencies. Breakfast is excellent. There is an omlet station along with plenty of breads cheeses and fish. Jimmy makes the closest thing to Starbucks coffee in Israel. Overall the staff is courteous something that can't be taken for granted in Israel. There is a charge for Internet in your room.”
We expected the usual "motel 6" sort of place but we had a beautiful suite, a plate of fresh fruits and bottle of water waiting for us in our room, and an ample Israeli style breakfast. It's not high end or fancy, and it's a bit of a trek to the historical center, but for the price, a great find.”
