Hawaii became an official state of the USA in 1959, and was once an independent republic known as the Kingdom of Hawaii. This means that as well as offering visitors the chance to explore its natural beauty with a range of adventure activities including hiking surfing and snorkeling, Hawaii also has its own unique culture and history.

There are a total of eight major islands in the Hawaii archipelago, eight of which can be explored by tourists. Situated on the Big Island of Hawaii, Hilo is the largest town and the main entry point to this part of the world as Hilo International Airport is located here.

Hawaii Big Island

Dubbed the ‘Big Island' to avoid confusion with the state of Hawaii, this magnificent island is nearly twice the size of its neighbors. This large and lovely island contains a number of natural attractions such as the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and large towns such as Hilo, Kona and Waikoloa.

Oahu

Known as the ‘Gathering Place', Oahu is a popular island for tourists as it is home to the stunning city of Honolulu. This island features Waikiki and Sunset Beach, which are two of the most famous beaches in the region as well as Pearl Harbor and the Diamond Head volcano.

Maui

Featuring some stunning beaches and luxurious beach resorts, Maui is popular with sun worshippers. In addition to touristy villages such as Lahaina, Kaanapali and Kihei and the world famous Hookipa Beach, Maui is also home to the largest dormant volcano in the entire world.

Kauai

The Garden Isle of Kauai is popular with visitors who enjoy hiking and trekking through the jungle. Kauai is blessed with some stunning natural features such as the impressive Mount Waialeale and the 835-meter deep Waimea Canyon.

Molokai

Known as the ‘Friendly Isle', Molokai is much less developed than many islands in this area and features the Kalaupapa National Historical Park. Golf lovers will also find some stunning golfing greens here.

Lanai

Once the world's largest pineapple plantation, the island of Lanai now features some luxurious resorts, where top end travelers are treated to a little pampering surrounded by intense natural beauty.
