Hong Kong was once a British colony and the island still contains a good number of interesting colonial buildings. However, these buildings now compete for pride of place with colorful Chinese temples, glittering skyscrapers and chaotic markets. Interesting attractions lurk around every corner, making Hong Kong a fascinating destination to explore. A good way to get a feel for the island is by taking the Peak Tram to the highest point on the island and enjoying the spectacular panoramic views.

Central and Western District

This district is Hong Kong's main administrative and financial hub contains a number of stunning skyscrapers. Central and Western District tourists can get around this neighbourhood by riding the large outdoor escalator. One of the main attractions includes Victoria Peak locally known as “The Peak” which offers picturesque views over Central, Victoria Harbour and the surrounding islands.

Eastern District

This neighbourhood is largely administrative and many big businesses are located here. Hong Kong tourists may want to take a tour around the Museum of Coastal Defence, which offers a historical insight of Eastern District and its military significance.

Southern District

The Southern District is Hong Kong's main recreation area and features a number of stunningly beautiful beaches. Although accommodation tends to be on the expensive side, there are some excellent restaurants and theme parks located here.

Wan Chai and Causeway Bay District

Offering visitors a party atmosphere, the Wan Chai district neighbourhood can be found on the northern shore. Hong Kong tourists and shoppers can browse for bargains in the large modern shopping malls, and those in search of vibrant Hong Kong nightlife can take their pick of flashy bars and clubs. Wan Chai District includes several areas some of those areas are the following:

- Causeway Bay

The Causeway Bay located in Wan Chai District is a known shopping destination which offers plenty of large department stores such as Sogo and Times Square Shopping Centre. This neighbourhood is popular with teenagers who spend time trying on the latest gear. Hotels in Causeway Bay

- Happy Valley

A popular base for expats, Happy Valley is connected to the other neighbourhoods in Hong Kong by a tramline. Top attractions include the Happy Valley Racecourse and the Hong Kong Cemetery, while Westerners will be able to satisfy their food cravings in the numerous restaurants that serve Western cuisine. - Wan Chai

Kowloon

This traditional Chinese neighbourhood is a good place to stay for those on a tight budget as accommodation prices tend to be lower than in many parts of Hong Kong. Although there are few tourist attractions to be found, Kowloon has a relaxing atmosphere.

Tsim Sha Tsui

This is a good place to stay as there is a wide range of accommodation available for visitors to Hong Kong. Tsim Sha Tsui also commonly knows as TST is located at the very tip of the peninsula, and features some interesting shops and markets. Hotels in TST

Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok

Full of restaurants serving cheap and tasty traditional Chinese meals, these twin neighbourhoods serve as an interesting contrast to modern Hong Kong. Shoppers head here to pick up traditional Chinese products.
